SUMMARY:ROS Summer School
DESCRIPTION:Our first ROS Summer School in 2012 showed that a lot of students are interested in mobile autonomous systems\, but do not know how to start. Our ROS Summer Schools provide the right starter kit by using our robotic hardware and – of course – ROS software. We first start with some days of introductory courses\, before we tackle the main tasks of mobile robotics\, i.e. perception\, localization\, mapping and path planning. \nOur philosophy is: “Learning by doing to get hands-on experience”. Besides acquiring the necessary theorethical knowlegde\, all topics will be taught in small groups on real mobile robots. \nA highlight is a competition (urban challenge) at the end of the summer school: Participants form different teams that have the task to design a typical mobile robotic application like indoor/outdoor exploration. They all use the same hardware\, powered by their learnt ROS skills. \nThe ROS Summer School includes also some leasure activities\, such as trips to Paris and Cologne (or other nearby cities). Last\, but not least we have a farewell barbecue at the end. \nThe ROS Summer School is supported by the ROSIN project of the European Commission: http://wiki.ros.org/rosin/acknowledgement

SUMMARY:ROS (Robot Operating System) Training Fallenbrunnen (1)\, Germany
DESCRIPTION:Problem statement \nThe use of ROS will increase in the future as the use of robots is increasing. The Open source approach and the community behind it made ROS widely accepted. The homepage „robotik UND PRODUKTION“ states\, that ROS will be an industrial standard in the future. The acceptance of this open source framework continues to grow. That`s why the original founders and new developers are seeking to establish ROS as the industry standard. As far as the research institute ABI Research is saying\, 55% of the commercial robots will own a ROS package in 2024.[1] In recent years utilization of ROS is increasing.  Therefor a lot of today`s jobs will be affected by that. Studies show that 57% of the jobs in the OECD could be affected.[2] That`s one reason why the employees need to be prepared and trained in ROS. \nExplanation of teaching approach \nLearning robotics by doing is far more effective than reading. This course will provide a good balance between theoretical and practical input. The course mainly concentrates on the basics of ROS. \n\nSince the ROS mainly works with Linux\, it is essential to educate the participants with the basic knowledge of the Linux operating system.\nSimilarly\, introduction into Git is also significant considering most of the contribution to ROS for the developers are present in the repository such as GitHub\, GitLab and BitBucket.\nThe course teaches the participants to basics of ROS with the theoretical background as well as the guided practical’s.\nIt is always fun when the developed package is running with real hardware. Therefore\, the time is given to the participants to understand and run the robots.\n\nDue to the large support from the ROS community\, the implementation of complex algorithms is made easy. The course will teach the participants how to use them and deploy them to the robots. The training material of the MASCOR Institute at the FH Aachen will be used.13 \n4-day training\n\nDay 1: introduction to Linux\, Shell Basic and introduction to Git\, Python basics \nDay 2: introduction and basic concept of ROS + workshop\, ROS programming and tools + workshop \nDay 3: robot description and transforms + workshop\, robot manipulation with MoveIt! + workshop\, hands on with real robot \nDay 4: navigation & path planning + workshop\, hands on with real hardware \nThis training is given in English\, but all our trainers speak German and English. \nCosts & Dates\nThere will be two price categories\, a regular and a student price. All training prices include training material (print and/or PDF) and snacks and beverages. The trainings are planned for approx. May/June 2020\, October 2020 and January 2021. We provide a mobile version for Inhouse trainings as well. Please contact us\, if you are interested in an inhouse training at your company. \ndate: 06.-09. Juli 2020 \n\nregistration deadline: 05. SUMMARY:ROSIN @ ROSCon2019 in Macao
DESCRIPTION:ROSCon 2019 is a chance for ROS developers of all levels\, beginner to expert\, to spend an extraordinary two days learning from and networking with the ROS community. Get tips and tricks from experts and meet and share ideas with fellow developers. \nROSCon is a developers conference\, in the model of PyCon and BoostCon. Following the success of the past six annual ROSCons\, this year’s ROSCon will be held in Macau. Similar to previous years\, the two-day program will comprise technical talks and tutorials that will introduce you to new tools and libraries\, as well as teach you more about the ones you already know. The bulk of the program will be 10-30 minute presentations (some may be longer or shorter). \nTwo talks based on the results of ROSIN will be given at ROSCon 2019 in Macau on November 1st (day 2). \n\nAt 10:10 listen to “ROS bugs later: Where do we go from here?” — a reflection based on the analysis of past bugs in the ROS platform. What kinds of bugs do programmers encounter when developing ROS applications? Are those bugs unique to ROS? What can we do to avoid them?\nAt 16:20\, Andrzej Wasowski (ITU) will present RxROS: a thin reactive programming layer for ROS that allows to program nodes without callbacks and locks.  This eliminates bugs like deadlocks and races by design.\n\nFurther talks also highlight ROS-Industrial such as on \n\nDay 1\, October 31st\, at 14:20 a talk by Levi Armstrong\, Chris Lewis (Southwest Research Institute and ROS-Industrial Consortium Americas ) on Industrial Manufacturing Automation Leveraging ROS\nDay 2\, November 1st\, at 14:10 a talk by Dejanira Araiza-Illan (ROS-Industrial Consortium Asia Pacific) on PackML2: State Machine Based System Programming\, Monitoring and Control in ROS2\nDay 2\, November 1st\, at 15:10 a talk by Christian Henkel (Pilz GmbH & Co. KG and ROS-Industrial member) on Safety Certified ROS-native Industrial Manipulator\n\n
