SUMMARY:ROS-I Academy\, Delft
DESCRIPTION:The modular design of ROS (Robot Operating System) makes it arguably the most used software stack for robot developers. Software developed with ROS tools is becoming more and more common place for applications such as robot manipulators\, service robots\, drones\, autonomous cars\, etc. In this 2-day training participants with none to basic knowledge of ROS will learn the skills and competences to configure and use ROS-based software solutions. \nTraining Topics \nThis course was designed by the ROS experts of FH Aachen and is part of the ROSIN project. In this 2-day course tutors from TU Delft will teach you the basics of ROS-Industrial. You will work out hands-on sessions in simulation and on the real robots and learn about: \n\nROS File system\nROS Tools (RVIZ\, RQT)\nROS Communication (Topics\, Services and Actions)\nTransformations (TF)\nRobot Modelling (URDF)\n\nDepending on the interest of the participants we will also cover some of the following topics: \n\nManipulation (MoveIt!)\nLocalization (AMCL & Gmapping)\nNavigation (move_base)\nSimulation (Gazebo)\n\nAfter this training the participant should be able to design basic ROS software and know where to find useful information in the ROS ecosystem. \nRegistration \nThe training is open to anyone interested in programming robots with ROS. Participants need to have a basic knowledge of programming (preferably python)\, and some knowledge of Linux is useful. This course can be taught in Dutch or English (depending on the need). SUMMARY:ROSIN @ ROSCon2019 in Macao
DESCRIPTION:ROSCon 2019 is a chance for ROS developers of all levels\, beginner to expert\, to spend an extraordinary two days learning from and networking with the ROS community. Get tips and tricks from experts and meet and share ideas with fellow developers. \nROSCon is a developers conference\, in the model of PyCon and BoostCon. Following the success of the past six annual ROSCons\, this year’s ROSCon will be held in Macau. Similar to previous years\, the two-day program will comprise technical talks and tutorials that will introduce you to new tools and libraries\, as well as teach you more about the ones you already know. The bulk of the program will be 10-30 minute presentations (some may be longer or shorter). \nTwo talks based on the results of ROSIN will be given at ROSCon 2019 in Macau on November 1st (day 2). \n\nAt 10:10 listen to “ROS bugs later: Where do we go from here?” — a reflection based on the analysis of past bugs in the ROS platform. What kinds of bugs do programmers encounter when developing ROS applications? Are those bugs unique to ROS? What can we do to avoid them?\nAt 16:20\, Andrzej Wasowski (ITU) will present RxROS: a thin reactive programming layer for ROS that allows to program nodes without callbacks and locks.  This eliminates bugs like deadlocks and races by design.\n\nFurther talks also highlight ROS-Industrial such as on \n\nDay 1\, October 31st\, at 14:20 a talk by Levi Armstrong\, Chris Lewis (Southwest Research Institute and ROS-Industrial Consortium Americas ) on Industrial Manufacturing Automation Leveraging ROS\nDay 2\, November 1st\, at 14:10 a talk by Dejanira Araiza-Illan (ROS-Industrial Consortium Asia Pacific) on PackML2: State Machine Based System Programming\, Monitoring and Control in ROS2\nDay 2\, November 1st\, at 15:10 a talk by Christian Henkel (Pilz GmbH & Co. KG and ROS-Industrial member) on Safety Certified ROS-native Industrial Manipulator\n\n

SUMMARY:ROS-Industrial EU Fall'19 Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Tech Workshop on MoveIt\, security & skill oriented programming with ROS\nFall edition of ROS-Industrial EU Tech Workshop will take place at Fraunhofer IPA on October 09th and 10th\, 2019. \nWe are glad to host two European MoveIt maintainers from ROS-Industrial Consortium member PickNik Robotics and University of Hamburg to give us an insight into the latest developements of MoveIt (incorporating motion planning\, manipulation\, 3D perception\, kinematics\, control & navigation)\, current and planned developements for ROS2 (MoveIt2)\, and a hands-on on ROS(1)-based ‘bare-metal to product’. \nNext on day 2\, Joanneum Research\, ROS-Industrial Consortium member from Austria\, will be demonstrating some insufficiencies of ROS(1) using a penetration testing tool ROSPenTo\, developed by Joanneum. They would further walk the participants through setup and configuration of SROS2\, set of tools to provide security infrastructure to ROS2. \nThe last session of the workshop would be jointly held by INESC TEC\, Aalborg University and Fraunhofer IPA. In the join presentation\, we will present the robotics skill oriented programming tools developed within the EU project ScalABLE4.0 enabling flexibility in the production line. \nNote: Participants will be provided with USB sticks with Ubuntu and all the necessary libraries and IDEs pre-installed. \nWorkshop attendance\n\nworkshop will start on day 1 around 11:00 on day1 to allow flying in on the same day and will include lunch and beverages.\nWe want to also organise an open presentation by participants and networking session at the end of day 1 and before an optional dinner in Stuttgart (If you want to present max 10 minutes\, please email us in advance)\nworkshop will finish on day 2 around 16:00 to allow fly out on the same day and will include lunch and beverages.\nfree for members of any ROS-Industrial Consortium worldwide\n500€ / person for any other organization\n\nRegistration\nPlease use this registration link and indicate your ROS-Industrial Consortium membership under “Discount code (for RIC Members)”\, if any. The event is organized by Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA in Stuttgart. With your registration you agree to the use of your data in accordance with the provisions of the Fraunhofer IPA Data Protection. SUMMARY:ROS Summer School\, FH Aachen
DESCRIPTION:ROS Summer Schools provide the right starter kit by using robotic hardware and ROS software. Program first starts with some days of introductory courses\, before main tasks of mobile robotics\, i.e. perception\, localization\, mapping & path #planning will be tackled. The event’s philosophy is: “Learning by doing to get hands-on experience“. Besides acquiring the necessary theorethical knowlegde\, all topics will be taught in small groups on real mobile robots. A highlight is a competition (urban challenge) at the end of the summer school: Participants form different teams that have the task to design a typical mobile robotic application like indoor/outdoor exploration. They all use the same hardware\, powered by their learnt ROS skills. The ROS Summer School includes also some leasure activities\, such as trips to Paris and Cologne (or other nearby cities). Last\, but not least we have a farewell barbecue at the end. The ROS Summer School is supported by the ROSIN project of the European Commission.
