SUMMARY:ROS-I EU Spring '19 Workshop
DESCRIPTION:With all the excitement and curiosity surrounding releases of ROS2 distros\, we are pleased to announce the Spring edition of ROS-Industrial EU Tech Workshop\, which will take place at Fraunhofer IPA on May 6th and 7th\, 2019. \nROS 2 supports multiple DDS/RTPS implementations and various factors will influence in choosing the right vendor for your needs: logistical considerations like the license\, or technical considerations like platform availability\, or computation footprint. \nKeeping in tune with this\, two of the most popular DDS vendors\, ADLINK and eProsima\, would be presenting their stacks at the workshop. Additionally\, Bosch\, one of the members of the EU funded Ofera project\, would be presenting microROS\, which extends ROS2 capabilities for extremely resource constrained devices. \nLastly\, as an internal effort\, Fraunhofer IPA would be demonstrating the porting of the ur_modern_driver to ROS2. \nNote: Participants will be provided with USB sticks with Ubuntu and all the necessary libraries and IDEs pre-installed. \nWorkshop attendance: \n\nworkshop will start around 11:00 on day 1 and finish around 16:00 on day 2 to allow fly in and fly out on the same dates\nfree for members of any ROS-Industrial Consortium worldwide\n500€ / person for any other organization\n\nRegistration: \nPlease use this registration link and indicate your ROS-Industrial Consortium membership under “Discount code (for RIC Members)”\, if any. The event is organized by Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA in Stuttgart. With your registration you agree to the use of your data in accordance with the provisions of the Fraunhofer IPA Data Protection. This consent can be revoked at any time by sending an informal letter to marketing@ipa.fraunhofer.de. \n

SUMMARY:ROS-Industrial EU Fall '18 Workshop: ROS for System Integrators
DESCRIPTION:ROS for System Integrators\nThe Fall edition of ROS-Industrial EU Tech Workshop will take place at Fraunhofer IPA on October 24\, 2018. It will consist of a step-by-step tutorial on how to build your advanced Scan-n-plan application with ROS\, using as a running example the demonstrator shown during the Automatica trade fair in Munich and at the upcoming ROSCon and IROS events in Madrid. \nScan-n-plan is a suite of open-source software tools enabling automated process planning and execution based on 3-D scan data acquired on the fly\, enabling surface processing of custom parts without custom programming. The day will start off by resuming the basics of manipulation in ROS\, followed by recreating the demo application on a different robot setup. \nWorkshop attendance\n\nfree for members of any ROS-Industrial Consortium worldwide\n250€ / person for any other organization

SUMMARY:ROS-Industrial EU Spring'18 Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Fraunhofer IPA is pleased to host a technical workshop and an info session on opportunities for funding through the EU H2020 ROSIN project. \nLocation: Fraunhofer IPA\, room D5.19 in building D. Please register at our main entrance to receive a campus map with directions. How to find us \nDate and time: from 11.30\, May 28\, to 15.00\, May 29\, 2018 \nSessions\nHRIM: A common interface for robot modules (session organized in collaboration with Erle Robotics)\nInteroperability among different hardware components with the purpose of building robot modules and thereby\, modular robots\, is an increasingly felt needed among vendors and users of robot technology. This workshop address the need of a common standard interface for the description of robot modules and sub-components to allow the reusability\, composability and interoperability of Hardware components. \nStarting point of the discussion will be the Hardware Robot Information Model (HRIM)\, an initiative by Erle Robotics to enable “plug and play robotics”. \nPLC<->ROS interoperability (session organized in collaboration with INESC TEC and University of Stuttgart)\nThe increasing need to interface ROS with industrial machinery is finding solutions that are often developed independently and for ad-hoc needs. The increasing need to interface ROS with industrial machinery is finding solutions that are often developed independently and for ad-hoc needs. \nFirst this session will present tools developed at Fraunhofer IPA and partner institutions\, with the goal to possibly gather users and developers with similar needs around them. Specifically: \n\nOPC-UA: one of the most convenient machine to machine communication protocols for industrial automation. The institute for control Engineering of Machine Tools and Manufacturing Units (ISW) of the University of Stuttgart will open this discussion showing their work improving the open source implementation of this protocol. To complete the workshop the ROS <-> OPC-UA wrapper that is being developed within the project SeRoNet will be introduced.\nCODESYS: a software platform for industrial automation technology based on a standard PLCs programming tools (IEC 61131-3). INESC TEC will present a CODESYS<->ROS gateway\, extending the ROS computation graph to PLCs programmed through the CODESYS development environment.\n\nThis workshop will be completed with a hand-ons session on the previously introduced CODESYS<->ROS Bridge and a live demo of existing ROS fielbuses implementation such as MODBUS TCP\, EtherNet/IP and CANopen. \nROSIN SW QA measures (session organized in collaboration with IT-University Copenhagen and TU Delft)\nThe session will present a status report on the software quality assurance measures of ROS-based systems with respect to an extensive study developed during the first year of the ROSIN project. We will present the early but already successful initiatives in the project: the ROS quality hub\, a discussion forum for quality issues\, and a community working group devoted to quality\, geared towards in industry applications. We will also report on what tools are being developed for improving code quality: timemachine (scripts to support testing and debugging of problems in legacy code)\, ROS Package generator (create your ROS interfaces automatically)\, and a glimpse into upcoming bug finders (a ROS-specific linter and a ROS fuzzing integration). \nTo finalize the event we organize an information session about the ROSIN Focused Technical Project opportunity that has a budget of 3+ Million EUR available to fund your ROS related development. \nProgram\nDay 1\, May 28\n11:30 – 12:30 Welcome snacks \n12:30 HRIM: A common interface for robot modules – Irati Zamalloa\, Erle Robotics [slides] \n14:00 – 14:15 Coffee break \n14:15 OPC Unified Architecture and its use in SeRoNet – Sebastian Friedl\, University of Stuttgart [slides] \n14:45 PLC<->ROS interoperability I – Rafael Arrais\, INESC TEC ; Tiago Pinto\, INESC TEC ; [slides] \n15:30 – 15:45 Coffee break \n15:45 PLC<->ROS interoperability II Fieldbusses review – Ludovic Deval\, Fraunhofer IPA [slides] \nDay 2\, May 29\n10:30 – 11:00 Welcome coffee \n11:00 ROSIN software quality assurance measures – Jonathan Hechtbauer\, Fraunhofer IPA [slides] [slides] \n12:00 – 13:30 Lunch \n13:30 Dissemination session on ROSIN FTP opportunities – Carlos Hernandez \, TU Delft [slides] \n14:30 – 15:00 Farewell coffee
